Slaný - The renovation of the historic district building in Slaný, Kladno, is set to begin in January or February. It is a protected monument, and a cultural and educational center will be established within it. According to the budget, the costs will be 183 million crowns, most of which is expected to be covered by European grants, said Lucie Krčková, spokesperson for the Slaný municipal office, in response to a query from ČTK.

The spaces affected by the renovation are currently unused. The internal layout of the building will be partially changed during the reconstruction. Rooms will be created where seminars can be held, as well as a hall for ceremonial events. "A library will operate in the cultural and educational center. Events will therefore be primarily organized by the Slaný library. A café should also be operational here," Krčková stated.

The city currently has funds allocated from a grant call, totaling 143 million crowns. The final application for the grant will be submitted in November 2025. "The expected start of construction work is after the approval of the grant, i.e., at the turn of January/February 2026," the spokesperson added.

The Neo-Renaissance building of the Slaný district house, built in 1902, stands at the corner of Dr. E. Beneš and Šultysovy streets. It was designed by architect Jan Vejrych. Until 1918, it housed the Slaný District Authority. After the founding of Czechoslovakia, it hosted the District Office of the political district of Slaný and later the office of the same administrative district. At the end of the 20th century, during the reconstruction of its buildings, the Czech Post also operated in the house.
