Olomouc - Olomouc Archdiocesan Museum, the square in Písečná in Jesenicko, the new factory of Mora-Top in Uničov in the Olomouc region, and the residential building in Olomouc, which was created by converting the local spa, have today been awarded the Building of the Year 2006 award in the Olomouc region. A total of 43 buildings from the entire region entered the competition of the same name, organized by the regional administration together with professional chambers and unions. The competition included a total of five categories. The reconstruction of the historical building housing the Archdiocesan Museum won among buildings for public amenities, the square in Písečná among transport and engineering constructions, and the conversion of the spa into a residential building among dwellings.
Mora-Top’s factory, whose roof resembles a gas cooker burner, impressed the jury in the category of industrial buildings. "We built the factory at a time when the Mora brand was celebrating its 180th anniversary. The new plant is a thank you to all generations of people who have worked in factories of this brand," said the director of Mora-Top, Michail Kosovsky. In the last category, water management constructions, which appeared in the competition for the first time, the organizers did not award the title of Building of the Year. The jury, which included representatives of the region, professional chambers, and unions, received only a single proposal in this category.
The Olomouc region organized the competition for the second time. "One of the tasks of regional politicians is to popularize things that we believe are worth knowing about. This includes buildings. We believe that this also helps those who realize them to increase their prestige," said Governor Ivan Kosatík. In the previous edition of the competition, which takes place every two years, the winners included the house on Labutí Street in Šternberk, the Gemo administrative building in Olomouc, the reconstruction of the Farmak building, and the modernization of the Olomouc-Červenka railway line.
