Olomouc - The Olomouc city council expects inspiration for public space design from a collaboration agreed upon with the Faculty of Architecture at CTU in Prague. Students will have the opportunity to design the development of selected parts of the city, such as unused areas or gaps. Mayor Mirek Žbánek (ANO) said this to journalists today.

"We want Olomouc to be among the cities that strive for the widest possible discussion on urban and architectural issues with the youngest generation of architects. Thanks to this collaboration, we will gain a number of projects that will present possible solutions for the city's development and its public spaces," said Žbánek.

Projects for selected areas and public spaces in Olomouc will be created by architecture students as part of their semester work. They will work under the patronage of a studio led by architects Michal Kohout and David Tichý. "Many cities have shown interest in collaboration with the Kohout - Tichý studio in the past, and that collaboration has subsequently taken off successfully," noted the mayor.

In March, a three-day workshop will be organized in Olomouc for students from the Faculty of Architecture at CTU. In their projects, they will focus on preliminarily identified locations. "In the historical core of the city, for example, this concerns the future use of the area of the Marketplace and the former bus station, the Old Town Barracks, the existing depot of the transport company in connection with its planned relocation, or the use of gaps in the city center," said Jana Křenková from the Office of the Chief Architect of the municipality.

Selected locations also include unused sites on Velkomoravská Street or vacant land between Brněnská and Schweitzerova Streets. "In the case of public spaces, the work could focus on the future appearance of Svobody Boulevard, the park on Dlouhá Street, or the area around Klášterní Hradisko," added Křenková.

The prepared projects will be presented by the students and representatives of the faculty to the city leadership and to the public through an exhibition. The exhibition will be accompanied by a discussion of their proposals and models. "The city will also receive the projects of future architects in digital form. The Kohout - Tichý studio has already collaborated in a similar way with the cities of Pardubice, Havlíčkův Brod, Říčany, Benešov, Prague, and Brno," stated city hall spokesperson Radka Štědrá.
