Olomouc will build a new bridge near the infant institute

Olomouc - The Olomouc City Hall will begin construction of a new bridge over the Morava River near the local nursery home at the beginning of June. The investment of 47.6 million crowns will be covered by a state grant, Deputy Mayor Martin Major told reporters today. The city originally planned to repair the existing bridge, but its condition has deteriorated so much due to last year’s spring floods that a repair would not make sense.
The city leadership does not yet know the completion date for the bridge. According to Major, this is due to the fact that the City Hall is revising the original project. The new design should better address the placement of the sidewalk, which will be part of the bridge. "If the Ministry of Regional Development approves the change, from which we will receive the grant, the bridge will be completed by the end of May next year. The original project anticipated completion of construction by the end of August 2008," Major specified.
The city will receive a grant from a fund designated for the renewal of municipal and regional property affected by floods.
The construction company that will build the new bridge will have to temporarily bridge the Morava River with a steel footbridge during construction, which will allow vehicle access to the nursery home, the Olomouc branch of the Morava River Authority, and to the houses in the area.
The construction of the new bridge was recommended to the city by a structural engineer. The originally planned reconstruction of the current bridge was estimated to cost around 15 million crowns. Trucks have been prohibited from entering the bridge near the nursery home for some time now. During last year’s floods, pedestrians were also banned from entering it because the place where it connects to the roadway had collapsed.
