Olomouc - The Olomouc City Hall will soon publish a plan to lease and subsequently sell lands in the area of the former bus station near the city center. The councilors want to find an investor who would build an architecturally quality building on the land adjacent to the city’s heritage reserve and construct underground parking for visitors to the city center at their own expense. “At this moment, I can only say that we want a dignified structure for this area that will be used by the public. It will be very complicated because investors always want to build on as much land as possible to operate as many activities as possible and recoup their investments as quickly as possible,” said Deputy Mayor Jaromír Czmero to reporters today. He added that one of the city's most important conditions is for the investor to build 320 spaces in underground garages in addition to the parking lots for the respective building. "The main impetus for seeking an investor is that we want to verify whether it is possible to meaningfully develop this area with funds outside the city budget and also build more than 300 parking spaces for the city center," stated Deputy Mayor Miroslav Petřík. According to Czmero, the city was also motivated to announce the plan by requests from two companies that had previously shown interest in the land. However, the city is not pleased with either company's plans. One company wanted to build a structure with apartments, a small hotel, and a shop, while the other proposed an office building. The first proposal was unacceptable to the city from an architectural standpoint, while the second was rejected because the city does not want an office building on the site. “The competition therefore starts from scratch. We expect that not only the previous interested parties will apply for the competition but also many other companies,” Czmero stated. He added that the city hall will accept applications until August 14. However, the deputy mayor could not say when a potential investor might start construction. “If an acceptable plan is found, the initiation of its implementation will be significantly influenced by archaeological surveys. The findings are likely to be significant,” Czmero said. The former bus station covers an area of nearly 16,000 square meters. The usual price in this location is 5,000 crowns per square meter. The bus station near the market ceased operations in 1981 when buses were moved to the then-new station in the Hodolany district.
