Ostrava - The company 3E Projekt has stopped the project for the construction of the Odra shopping center in Ostrava-Výškovice. The center was to be built in the middle of the housing estate on the site of the same-name shopping center, which was demolished two years ago. According to the company, there is already demand and the market is saturated. 3E Projekt announced this in a press release.

The construction of the center was originally to cost nearly 500 million crowns, but last year the company announced that it had reassessed the project and reduced the costs by half. "Based on the tender, the construction budget has been specified. We also contacted potential tenants for the commercial spaces in the shopping center. After evaluating the overall demand and the saturation of the retail market in Ostrava and the surrounding area, we are forced to reassess the entire project and currently suspend it indefinitely," said now the director of asset management of 3E Projekt, Martin Výtisk.

The demand for similar buildings has changed, according to the company. "At a time when there is a newly modernized Hruška supermarket in the area, it makes no sense to build another department store here," Výtisk stated.

However, according to him, the company will look for other uses for the land after the Odra center. "The new plan should better suit the current situation in the area, and we hope it will be more beneficial to the residents of Ostrava-Výškovice than the originally intended shopping center," Výtisk stated.
