Prague - The new building law has brought problems with construction to many municipalities. Family houses could previously be built based on an urban study, but the new law requires a zoning plan. However, more than 600 municipalities do not have these plans developed. As a result, many people have plots of land on which they cannot build. This was reported today by Nova TV. Without a zoning plan, municipalities cannot expand; construction can only occur in old developments. The preparation of a zoning plan, which can cost hundreds of thousands, is too expensive for many municipalities and can take up to three years. Minister for Regional Development Jiří Čunek wants to ease the new law. Municipalities could use money from EU funds to prepare the zoning plan, and they should also have a certain transitional period. "We will quickly prepare an amendment (to the building law)," said Čunek to Nova.
