Prague - The planned major amendment to the building law is not expected to see the light of day in the next two years. This was said today by Miroslav Kalous, Deputy Minister for Regional Development, at the discussion meeting of the Žofín Forum on construction. Currently, according to the deputy, a draft of the amendment to the law is being prepared, which is still to undergo further discussion. At the beginning of April, the Ministry for Regional Development (MMR) stated, according to then-communicator Tatiana Kaniová from the ministry's communication department, that it anticipated the drafting of the amendment proposal by the end of June. This would be the second amendment to the new building law, which has been in effect since January 1, 2007. Minister for Regional Development Jiří Čunek announced in April upon his return to office that preparing a major amendment to the building law would be one of his priorities. Builders are currently gathering comments on the change to the law, for example, through the member companies of the Union of Entrepreneurs in Construction (SPS). The union advocates for the requirement that an authorized construction manager does not have to be appointed for every construction site. A smaller amendment to the building law passed through parliament in May and was signed by the president. This adjustment allowed, for instance, for the placement of a building in an undeveloped part of a municipality that does not have a land-use plan. According to the currently valid law, this was not possible.
