Ostrava - In the area of the Technical University of Ostrava (VŠB-TU), work is currently finishing on the building of a new auditorium and Information Technology Center, which is expected to be completed by the end of June. After approximately two years of construction, the university will gain another building with a total capacity of around 900 seats, said Petra Kubová, manager for external relations, to ČTK today. The new building will feature a large auditorium with more than 500 seats, which will also house an organ costing around 5.5 million crowns. In addition to this auditorium, the complex will also include two smaller halls for 41 and 120 people, and two lecture halls with 85 seats each. Part of the building will then serve the Information Technology Center. The total cost will be around half a billion crowns. The university intends to use the new auditorium for organizing congresses and conferences, as well as providing facilities for its students. Lectures, matriculations, and graduations are expected to be held there. However, the university is already preparing another significant investment, which is the construction of the Center for Advanced Innovative Technologies. The first of two technological pavilions of this center is expected to begin construction this fall. "Currently, a tender for the construction supplier is being prepared, and the winner should be known by the end of August or the beginning of September this year," Kubová specified. The pavilion will consist of laboratories for seven research centers focusing on fields such as information and communication technologies, energy, and advanced construction technologies. The second pavilion, which is expected to start construction at the beginning of next year, will include, among other things, business incubators. The tender for the supplier is planned for the last quarter of this year. At the seven faculties of VŠB-TU, over 19,000 students are currently studying in bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs. It is the largest university among four higher education institutions in the region.
