In New Town, a relaxation garden should be created

Prague - Prague 1 wants to repair and make accessible the garden between Opatovická and V Jirchářích streets in New Town. The renovation of the garden, which is currently in the study phase, will cost around three million crowns. The new rest garden is expected to open to the public next April, said Prague 1 Deputy Mayor Daniel Hodek (ČSSD) today to ČTK.
    "New Town is one of the parts of Prague 1, where every new tree is especially valued due to the dense block development. This garden is a green oasis among the houses. Therefore, we decided to make the garden accessible to citizens for peaceful relaxation," Hodek stated.
    The project envisions the creation of a quiet space with restricted access for a limited number of visitors, equipped with simple outdoor furniture. The furnishings should include a large, firmly anchored table and movable chairs or lounge chairs and sunbeds. According to historical sources, the garden is located on the original cemetery that adjoined the local Church of St. Michael. The project does not plan for the construction of a playground.
    The aim is to create a place where one can read a book in peace or play chess. Three new linden trees are to be planted in addition to the current five trees. The garden will also include birdhouses and a birdbath. Refreshments will also be available for people - water is expected to gush from a new fountain or a small fountain.
    The garden's operating mode will arise from experience with operations, and it is expected to be locked at night. Prague 1 is collaborating on the project with the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession, which is a neighbor of the garden and occasionally uses it for outdoor services.
