Karlovy Vary - It has been reported that inadequate materials were allegedly used in the construction of the Judicial Palace in Prague due to fraud. According to the police, the company Degussa Building Materials Chrudim committed fraudulent actions, supplying materials to the company Mabo System Group Karlovy Vary, which was working on the building site. This was reported today by the police spokesperson in Karlovy Vary, Zdeňka Papežová. The materials used during the construction work on the Judicial Palace caused excessive shrinkage of the surfaces of parts of the building, cracking, and twisting. The damage caused to the company Mabo is estimated at nearly 20 million crowns. The statutory body of Degussa Building Materials Chrudim allegedly made decisions from April this year until now in violation of the agreed Commercial Terms and Conditions for the sale of products and materials, according to Papežová. The company supplied a different product than what was contracted under the trade name EBF-special in the contract. "This conduct was concealed by the fact that the Chrudim company supplied the product in neutral white bags without labeling or printing. It was only later revealed that it was not appropriate. Therefore, the police have launched an investigation into the crime of fraud," Papežová stated. The Judicial Palace was opened on October 30 this year. The construction of the complex, which encompasses the transfer of courts and public prosecutor's offices from four Prague districts, cost the Ministry of Justice more than 2.5 billion crowns. The complex was created through the reconstruction of three historic buildings on the site of the former Caserne of Jan Roháč from Dubá and the construction of a new six-story building in the central part of the complex. The construction took over three years. Around 1,000 employees will work in the completed palace. The complex will accommodate 98 courtrooms, 38 special rooms for confidential interrogations, as well as 30 detention cells, an auction hall, and a specialized library. For example, the cafeteria for the employees of the courts and public prosecutor's offices has a capacity of up to 1,200 meals per day.
