Prague - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced a tender for the reconstruction of the historically protected Trauttmannsdorf Palace in Prague's Hradčany district. It expects to pay 290 million crowns excluding VAT for the construction work. It hopes to start this year, with the renovation scheduled to be completed in 2019. This is according to information published in the Public Procurement Journal. The ministry previously stated that it would like to relocate its detached workplaces into the palace. "The goal of the reconstruction is to make the entire area of the palace operational. The reconstruction will not involve the construction of any new buildings," the ministry stated in the procurement announcement. Candidates can apply until April 9. The renovation of Trauttmannsdorf Palace is one of the ministry's investment priorities this year. It is also planning the reconstruction of its embassy in London and the renovation of the embassy building in Washington, as well as its permanent representative office to the UN in New York. Czech diplomacy aims to decide this year on the future of the inadequate embassy in Berlin - either a new one will be built, or the current one will be renovated. Trauttmannsdorf or Trčka Palace is protected as a cultural monument. In addition to the Trauttmannsdorfs and Trčkas, it has also belonged to the Šliks, Kinskys, and Lobkovices in the past. The originally Renaissance building was remodeled in the early Baroque style, and in the penultimate century, it became a classicist apartment building. For a certain period, it also served as a prison.
