Prague has once again selected a company for the supervision of the construction of the terminal at Smíchov station

Prague – The technical supervision of the planned transportation terminal construction at the Smíchov train station will be secured for the capital city for 119.3 million crowns without VAT by a consortium led by the company BUNG CZ. Prague city councilors approved the tender result today. The winner was chosen for the second time, as the previous selection was cancelled due to an objection from one of the competition participants. The city is also selecting a company for the terminal's construction; the tender was announced last June and has not yet been completed.

The planned terminal is set to connect trains, the metro, city, and intercity buses, and trams in one location. Underpasses from Nádražní Street will lead to the train platforms. The station itself will be on the second level, at the same elevation as today, with a bus terminal planned above, relocated from the current station at Na Knížecí. The metro will be underneath the terminal.

The project, estimated to cost 7.12 billion crowns without VAT according to the tender specifications, is linked to investments by the Railway Administration, which initiated the modernization of the train station and track areas for 5.1 billion crowns at the end of 2023, and also plans to renovate the station building. This renovation will involve replacing the current southern wing with a four-story new building featuring shops and restaurants.

Smíchov train station was opened as the second major station in Prague in 1862. The current station building was constructed in the 1950s, and the original structures did not survive, partly due to damage during World War II. The station is one of the busiest railway hubs in Prague, along with the main station – which was connected ten years after its establishment – and Masaryk Station.
