Brno - The Museum of the City of Brno is considering covering the inner courtyard of Špilberk Castle. It aims to prevent rain from disrupting cultural programs, as has happened several times in the summer. The exact design of the covering will emerge from a professional study, which is expected to be completed next year. This week, the Brno city councilors supported the project preparation, the city hall informed in a press release today.

The museum that manages the castle originally considered a mobile covering for the stage at Špilberk. However, it is ultimately considering a more systematic solution. Therefore, it has requested the city, as its founder, to partially use the funds allocated for the mobile covering for a feasibility study and potential project preparation.

"We agreed to the request because Špilberk is establishing itself not only as a tourist attraction but also as a venue for cultural events. Covering the courtyard would add a new dimension to this function. I believe we will find a suitable technical solution that will also meet the requirements of heritage preservation," stated Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS).

According to the director of the contributing organization Zbyňka Šolce, the covering will provide higher comfort for visitors and event organizers at the castle. "This will expand the possibilities of the cultural season and offer Brno residents a truly vibrant cultural place at their castle, in line with the motto Špilberk lives 12 months a year," added Šolc.

The study for the covering, including project implementation documentation, is already being developed, with Brno Communications in charge. They are also partially drawing from a competition in which architecture students explored the possibilities of covering several years ago.
