Prague - The multicultural arts center Studio Alta is set to relocate next year from the Karlín Invalidovna to the premises of the former Panský brewery in Libeň's Podzámčí. Its two-year tenure in Invalidovna will conclude at the end of this year. The lease agreement for the Libeň brewery complex was signed in August, lasting until the end of 2024. Studio Alta considers the move a fundamental change for its future operations. This was communicated to journalists today by the director of Studio Alta, Lída Vacková.
Studio Alta was established in 2008 as a space for the creation and presentation of primarily dance art and physical theater. Over time, it has transformed and expanded into a multicultural center and creative hub connecting artists, the public, and diverse communities.
"The new location now represents an important step towards a stable background, but also a challenge in the form of a complete reconstruction of a long-unutilized building and a crowdfunding campaign for its realization,” stated director Vacková. "The lease agreement for the complex was signed until the end of 2024. After developing an investment plan, we anticipate a significant amendment with a view to inhabiting the space for up to a ten-year period. This vision is crucial for the gradual reconstruction of the entire building and for the future of Studio Alta,” she added.
The former Panský brewery from the 16th century boasts a spacious hall and several rooms suitable for supporting cultural and community activities. However, the building, which is not connected to basic infrastructural networks, requires a complete reconstruction. An architectural study for Studio Alta is currently being prepared by the studio 22:22 architects. The crowdfunding campaign planned for next year will be essential for financing the reconstruction, as well as grants and donations from sponsors and partners.
As in its previous locations, Studio Alta plans to collaborate with local organizations and the community. "Together with the Municipal District of Prague 8 and our partners, we believe that we can create a place out of the Brewery that will dignify the entire location of Libeň's Podzámčí,” added Vacková.
Studio Alta was founded 14 years ago as a space for the creation and presentation of primarily dance art. Over time, it has transformed and grown into a center that connects art and diverse communities.
