BRNO - The Brno city council is considering the purchase of the Boby Center sports and entertainment complex. According to the city council, a potential transfer of the property to the city's ownership should simplify the construction of a new stadium behind Lužánky, writes today’s South Moravian supplement of Mladá fronta Dnes (MfD). The entire area is currently owned by several owners, but the land under the Boby Hotel belongs to the city.
Three years ago, entrepreneur Daniel Šorm purchased the Boby Hotel from the bankruptcy trustee for 231 million crowns. Šorm wanted to buy the land under the hotel from the city, but the city council rejected it. The city leadership has already discussed the possibility of a sale with the owners of other buildings in the Boby Center area, MfD reports.
The construction of a sports complex with a football stadium for 30,000 spectators could begin as early as next year. If the city buys the complex, no one would block the potential building permit, said the mayor's deputy Radomír Jonáš to the newspaper. However, the city is not the only party looking to build behind Lužánky. According to one of the known projects, a skyscraper with offices and apartments could rise on the lucrative land, MfD concludes.
