Brno - The scaffolding structure in Moravské náměstí in Brno, which represents a model of the German House demolished after World War II, does not have a building permit, although it should. ČTK was told today by the chairman of the Brno ODS, Robert Kerndl, who pointed out the problem. The temporary structure, as the centerpiece of the Meeting Brno festival, was created based on the consent of the Department of the Environment, according to the secretary of the Brno-střed district, Petr Štika. The building authority has asked the Tourist Information Center of the city of Brno (TIC), which has the model on the square, to provide additional information. According to Štika, otherwise, the procedure for the removal of the structure will begin.

Inside the structure is a stage and refreshments. Meeting Brno aims to open complex topics of regional history, seek unity in diversity, and contribute to understanding. "We thought it was an illegal structure. We submitted an inquiry to the building authority asking if the scaffolding requires a building permit. The building authority concluded that it should have a permit, but the structure does not have one," Kerndl stated.

Štika confirmed this as well. "The Tourist Information Center constructed it based on the consent expressed by the Department of the Environment of our office. However, we then received suggestions as to whether it was subject to zoning proceedings. The building authority sided with the notion that it is, yet it had not approved the structure. This is a misunderstanding and a slight inconsistency, as it was unclear whether a permit was required. However, there is no danger because a professional company installed it," Štika said.

According to him, the building authority has asked the tourist center to provide all necessary documents and materials. "The organizers have 30 days to provide the documentation and are working on it together," spokesperson for the tourist center, Adéla Nováková, told ČTK. The deadline expires in the first half of July. TIC must prove that the structure does not contradict the aims and tasks of spatial planning, is not on land where regulations prohibit it, or is not in conflict with the public interest. If the information is not provided, according to Štika, the building authority may initiate removal proceedings for the structure. However, this process may take longer, and the festival scaffolding is scheduled to be removed in September. "We are bothered that the city pursues everyone who wants to sell strawberries at a stall, while the tourist center should set an example and does not have a building permit. They themselves should have found out what is needed to build the model," Kerndl added.
