Bedřichov (Jablonecko) - New cross-country ski trails, as well as quality facilities, are set to be built for athletes and tourists in Jizerské hory's Bedřichov. The municipality plans to construct a modern ski resort there, with the project designed by renowned architect Martin Rajniš. Bedřichov's mayor, Petr Šmaus, said today that the proposal has already been approved by the councilors, and a public discussion will take place in mid-April. The new Bedřichov ski resort will be built in a location that has traditionally served both competitors and tourists, specifically on the meadow below the Lesní cottage, where the Jizerská 50 race finishes. "Currently, there is a temporary mobile facility set up, and tents are erected during races," added the mayor. Like Rajniš’s other buildings, the resort will be made of wood, glass, and granite. It will house the Jizerská non-profit organization, which takes care of the cross-country ski trails. The mountain rescue service will also be stationed there, along with racers and all regular visitors to the trails. Hundreds of thousands of skiers, who currently head to Bedřichov, lack changing rooms and services. Martin Rajniš is one of the leading Czech architects. He co-authored the Máj department store on Prague's Národní street (1972-1975), the pavilion of transport history at Expo 1986 in Vancouver, contributed to the Smíchov Center project (1999), and designed numerous family homes and administrative buildings. Most recently, he drew attention with the construction of the post office on Sněžka. Three interlinked buildings will be constructed at the Bedřichov stadium. The technical facilities will be embedded in the terrain, and its roof will be grass-covered. Visitors will find refreshments, ski and cycling services, shops, and rentals of sports equipment there. The facility will also function in the summer for tennis and a new multipurpose court. "We are not planning a permanent grandstand; we will set up a mobile one if needed," noted Šmaus. The construction of the buildings is estimated to cost around 60 million korunas, and the municipality aims to obtain European subsidies for it. "We also need to build new cross-country ski trails to better distribute the movement of tourists along the trail and connect various locations," the mayor pointed out. Currently, most skiers go only in one direction, from Bedřichov to Šamalova meadow. The new route should allow skiers to reach Janov nad Nisou, with another access point at Maliník. Besides the cross-country circuit, the new trail will have three bridges and one underpass. The municipality has already requested zoning decisions for the trails and crossings. In Bedřichov, there are 270 permanent residents, but during the season, there can be up to 5,000 people daily.
