Dubí - The hunting lodge Dvojhradí in Dubí in the Teplice region has turned to ashes. At the time of the fire last night, no one was in the building. The baroque structure is listed as a cultural monument. Milan Rudolf, spokesperson for the regional firefighters, confirmed this to ČTK today. The police are investigating the case on-site. Preservationists must now wait for a statement from a structural engineer who will decide the future of the building.
Firefighters received the report of the fire early this morning shortly after 2:00 a.m. Seven units responded, including five volunteer teams. "Upon the arrival of the first unit, the building was fully engulfed in flames," Rudolf stated. "In the morning, we began to tear down the roof and some parts of the exterior walls," he added.
According to Rudolf, the owner estimated the damage at more than a million. Given that the building is a cultural monument, the amount may still increase.
The hunting lodge in the game reserve was built for his wife around 1703 by Count František Karel Clary-Aldringen. The reserve is among the popular destinations for visitors to the Teplice spa and locals. Inside the lodge, there was a restaurant.
The fire damaged the roof, truss, interiors, and part of the floor. "The structural engineer must now determine the extent of damage to the timber-framed construction and whether there is a chance to restore it," Daniel Vágner from the Ústí nad Labem office of the National Heritage Institute (NPÚ) told ČTK. "We will, of course, assist in any potential restoration of the building; we have all the detailed documentation," he said. The future of the monument should be decided in the coming days.
