People protest against the construction of a restaurant above Prokopské Valley

Prague - Residents of Prague 5 protested at today's meeting of the municipal council against the construction of a restaurant in Barrandov. A private investor plans to build it on Lohninská Street between the playground and the path to Klukovice above Prokop Valley. According to the residents, this will lead to the destruction of green spaces and a decline in quality of life. They are asking the councilors to revoke the positive decision made by the Prague 5 city council in November 2013.
    The restaurant is set to occupy an area of 3000 square meters. It is expected to accommodate up to a hundred guests and, according to the residents, there will be four grills, a stage for concerts, and a dance hall.
    Opponents of the restaurant attended today's council meeting during so-called interpellations, where they can pose questions to politicians. "The number of parking spaces in the area is already insufficient, there will be a deterioration in life due to noise, smoke, accumulation of trash, or smoke from the grills," said one of the residents. Another mentioned that there are already three other restaurants nearby.
    The land is classified as urban greenery in the town planning documents. However, some councilors of Prague 5 argue that this allows for the construction of a garden restaurant. Councilor Tomáš Homola (independent) stated in the discussion that the restaurant is essentially a cover for the construction of a private house. A similar opinion was expressed by councilor Radek John (VV).
    However, any decision made by the council does not necessarily prevent the construction definitively. The final decision is made by the building authority, which is a part of the state administration and is independent of the political representation. Therefore, neither the councilors nor the councilors, as self-governing bodies, can interfere in its decision-making.
