Liberec - Liberec is offering a place for the construction of a new base for the Emergency Medical Service of the Liberec Region. The hectare of land in the U Lomu locality is intended to be donated to the Liberec Region. At the same time, the city is interested in the current premises of the ambulance service on Husova Street, which will become available after its relocation. This was stated today by Mayor Jaroslav Zámečník (Mayors for the Liberec Region) to journalists. The costs for building the new base are expected to be up to 200 million crowns, and it could be completed by 2024.
The Liberec Region has long been looking for land in Liberec for the construction of a new emergency service dispatch center, which would also include a dispatcher, repair, and training center for the ambulance service. "We have agreed on a plot of land in the U Lomu locality at the turn from Jablonecká Street to Kunratická. At this moment, we are examining the land in terms of building restrictions, easements, and technical possibilities of connection to networks," the mayor stated. According to him, clarity should be achieved by May. He estimated the value of the land at ten million crowns.
The location is within a good travel distance to the Liberec Regional Hospital, as well as on the busy I/14 connection between Liberec and Jablonec nad Nisou. It is also outside the most congested center. In return, the city is interested in the current premises on Husova Street. "We could use it as a base for the municipal office. We want to check if the garages could be used for repairs of our service vehicles," added Zámečník.
The emergency medical service of the Liberec Region has bases distributed in 13 towns, with two in Liberec, the other being at the airport. The city and regional councils have already agreed on a joint memorandum regarding the land for the new base. "This is a very important step for the Emergency Medical Service of the Liberec Region. The current spaces are no longer sufficient. A new base on city-owned land in the U Lomu area could be constructed by 2023 or 2024," said the Deputy Governor for Health, Přemysl Sobotka (ODS). An architectural competition should decide on the design of the ambulance service's premises.
