Krnov - The Krnov city hall is preparing a reconstruction of the municipal theater for 24 million crowns. The work will only involve the interior spaces, aiming to increase the comfort of both audience and performers and to optimize operational costs. The theater will have, among other things, new boxes and seats. This was stated today by the city spokesperson Dita Círová.
Jan Šrubař from the public procurement department of the Krnov city hall stated that, in addition to replacing the seats, plans include the reconstruction of sanitary facilities, the repair of acoustic wall panels, and acoustic ceilings in the boxes, as well as restoring the original central entrance to the auditorium on the ground floor. According to him, the capacity of the hall will also be reduced from the current 678 seats to 554.
Changes will also affect the heating of the building, which should bring economic savings. "A forced ventilation system for the stage and auditorium will be established, which will also serve as the main way to heat the affected spaces with intelligent management," Šrubař added. The supply cables to the electrical distribution boards will also be replaced.
At the same time, work continues on the repair of the theater's plinth and the accompanying walls, which were supposed to be completed by the end of August according to the contract. However, the work has been prolonged due to the granite slabs used for the cladding, whose production was limited in the spring due to the coronavirus crisis.
"The municipal theater in Krnov represents, alongside the reconstruction of the damaged theater building in Kamenický Šenov, a unique example of expressionist theatrical architecture in the Czech lands," Círová stated. The theater was designed by Leo Kammel, a student of Jan Kotěra, who dramatized the corner building with sharp gables and wedge-shaped decorative motifs.
