Brno - The South Moravian Region plans to start the construction of two senior homes with special regimes next year in Miroslav in the Znojmo district and in Bučovice in the Vyškov district. In Miroslav, there will be 70 places for 140 million CZK, and in Bučovice, 50 places for 100 million CZK. Marek Šlapal (ČSSD), the deputy of the governor, told ČTK. The constructions are expected to take about a year and a half. The region will fund this from its own budget with the help of a loan. Additional homes are also planned in the future in Brno, Hustopeče, and Břeclav.

The region has nearly fifty senior homes and about 40 homes with special regimes. There are also homes for the disabled, sheltered housing, and similar facilities. In total, they offer around 8,500 places. "We want to build homes with special regimes for people suffering from dementia or those in health conditions that prevent them from staying at home. The population is aging, and with increasing age, self-sufficiency will decrease," Šlapal stated. In addition, the region will increasingly support outreach and outpatient social services that allow people to be less dependent on assistance and stay at home as long as possible.

Originally, a home with 50 places was planned in Miroslav, but the region is now revising the project to have 70 places. Bučovice will have 50 places. The region intends to start building both homes at the beginning of next year. According to Šlapal, it is not possible to draw subsidies for the homes, so the costs will have to be covered by the region. It will also use the planned loan from the European Investment Bank amounting to 700 million CZK for this purpose.

Another home with 100 beds for 200 million CZK is set to be established in the coming years in Brno on Tomešova Street in a vacant building of a former blood transfusion station. The region is considering involving a private investor in the project through a concession agreement. This would involve the private party building the home, operating it for a contractually stipulated period, and then the property would be transferred to the region. The advantage is that the concessionaire does not pay VAT on the construction and can reduce costs by profits from operation. The home would be part of the regional network, and its operation would be funded by money from the ministry and the region.

Another 50 places could eventually be created in Hustopeče. "We also have an offer from the Břeclav hospital, where a similar capacity could be established in one of the wings. We will still address this," Šlapal added.

For this year, the region has an approved budget with revenues of 7.172 billion CZK and expenditures of 7.086 billion CZK.
