Olomouc - The church together with the building of the parish of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren located on the embankment in Olomouc has been included in the register of cultural monuments. This was decided by the Ministry of Culture, which was proposed for registration on the list of monuments by Olomouc conservators. Vlastimil Staněk from the Olomouc branch of the National Heritage Institute (NPÚ) told ČTK. According to experts, the building is linked to the history of the city and is valued not only for its architectural significance but also from a cultural and historical perspective. The construction of the church, which was completed in 1920, was designed by the German architect Otto Kulhmann. "The architect excelled in specializing in sacred evangelical architecture, which he designed for church congregations in Germany and in the territory of present-day Austria. He significantly influenced sacred architecture of this kind in the Czech lands," Staněk stated. The evangelical parish house was first built at the corner of Husova and Blahoslavova streets at the beginning of the 20th century in a neo-Gothic style according to the design of Olomouc civil engineer Cyrill Knob. According to conservationists, the construction of the church did not occur at that time, and the hall with stucco ceiling decoration on the ground floor of the parish house served for a long time as a prayer room. However, the community did not abandon the idea of constructing a church. "In order to realize it, they sought a new style that would differentiate them from the German evangelical community and that would also reflect their ideas and meet the demands of the modern architectural trend," added Staněk. The congregation ultimately approached Otto Kuhlmann. The cornerstone of the church was laid on September 27, 1914, and it can still be seen bricked up in the ground floor of the tower. Due to the war, the construction of the church connected to the parish house was completed only in 1920. The building then underwent a number of modifications. The latest, when an elevator was built in the building for barrier-free access to the upper floor, was carried out after the floods in 1997. However, none of the renovations disrupted the overall historical impression of the building, and thus the church has retained the appearance that architect Kuhlmann designed in 1913. With the inclusion of the church complex in Olomouc on the list of cultural monuments, experts believe that it closes the set of realized projects for churches designed by Otto Kuhlmann in our territory. Among the remaining parts of the set are the temple in Přerov, completed in 1908, which was declared a cultural monument in 1995, and the church in Roudnice nad Labem from 1909, which became a cultural monument in 1993. The project for the construction of the church in Tábor from 1914 remains on paper.
