Pasohlávky (Brno region) - The Church of Saint Linhart from the 12th century on the island in the central reservoir of the Nové Mlýny waterworks could be accessible to tourists next year. They would only be able to reach it in organized groups by a boat. Martina Dominová, the mayor of Pasohlávky in the Brno region, told ČTK today that the church belongs to them. The municipality is collaborating with the Department of the Environment of the South Moravian Region on the project. "The central reservoir of Nové Mlýny is a nesting site for rare bird species and is part of an important bird area designated as Natura 2000. Therefore, it is not possible to build a bridge or embankment to cross to the island. The conservationists did not permit it," the mayor stated. The only solution is to transport tourists to the island by boat. Everything must be conducted in an ecological manner so that birds are not disturbed during their nesting period and no damage is done to the environment. According to the mayor, the regional office should establish conditions in the coming months under which tourists will be able to travel to the island by boat. It will also specify how large their groups should be. The local municipal office in Pasohlávky wants to operate the boat. "Initially, we would transport vacationers to the chapel. Over time we would like to renovate it and make an observation point out of its tower. The costs associated with the project have not yet been calculated," Dominová added. The chapel is the only structure from the village of Mušov that has been preserved since the Nové Mlýny were created in the 1970s. Its upper and lower reservoirs are used for recreation, while the central reservoir serves as a nesting ground for water birds. Mayors from the region have been looking for a use for the chapel for many years. It is one of the well-known places in South Moravia. It can be seen, for example, from the nearby road connecting Brno with Vienna.
