Kolín - The former barracks command building on Prague Street in Kolín has been transformed into 35 apartments. With their construction, the city has completed the redevelopment of the area it acquired from the army. Primarily, nearly 290 housing units were created for employees of the TPCA automobile factory. The new apartments fall into the category of so-called starter apartments, aimed primarily at young families and seniors, and the city itself will decide on their tenants, Mayor Jiří Buřič told journalists today. "It can be said that the residential construction financed by the city has come to an end," the mayor added. According to him, private investors are now taking over the initiative. Buřič stated that the city currently has enough apartments. However, if there is a chance to obtain a subsidy for housing support, it will certainly take advantage of it again. There are about 2000 applicants for an apartment on the municipal office's waiting list. The total costs for the reconstruction of the command building, including the adjustment of its surroundings, construction of a parking lot, and a noise barrier, reached 52 million crowns. The city received a state subsidy of 500,000 crowns for each housing unit, with the remainder funded from its own resources. Most of the apartments in the new building are small, with sizes not exceeding 60 square meters; four have barrier-free adjustments. New tenants are expected to start moving in May. The mayor reminded that in the transformation of the former barracks into apartments, in addition to the city and the state, private investors also contributed financially. Two supermarkets were built in the area, and land was prepared for the construction of additional shops.
