Prague - The book "Industrial, Memory, Starting Points" introduces readers to the Czech industrial heritage of past centuries. It is based on years of research by preservationists, theorists, and architecture historians from the Research Centre for Industrial Heritage at the Czech Technical University in Prague. To mark the 300th anniversary of the founding of CTU, it was published by Titanic Publishing.

The book is not just a historical overview of architecture and the typologies of industrial buildings linked to the technologies of industrial sectors, or a nostalgic look at what remains from the industrial era in the Czech lands. Endangered or already extinct technical giants and their bizarre atmosphere become an inspiration. Its aim is to familiarize the public with the industrial legacy and new trends in its understanding.
The authors Eva Dvořáková, Benjamin Fragner, and Tomáš Šenberger are among the initiators of the Industrial Heritage Protection Section of the National Technical Museum in Prague (1987) and among the founders of the Research Centre for Industrial Heritage at CTU in Prague. They popularize the issues and new trends in understanding industrial architecture and are preparing the international biennale "Industrial Traces", which will take place in the fall and will be part of the celebrations of CTU's anniversary.
The publication is complemented by color photographs by Pavel Frič, capturing the authentic state of certain industrial objects and sites in the Czech Republic between 2003 and 2006. The introductory essay by Benjamin Fragner offers, in addition to the history of industrialization, the evolution of views on the preservation of disappearing values of industrial heritage.
The Research Centre for Industrial Heritage at CTU was established in 2002. It coordinates and methodologically supports interdisciplinary cooperation among experts and institutions dealing with the history, architecture, urban contexts, technology development, and ecological and economic aspects of research, preservation, and new functional uses of technical monuments and industrial buildings and sites. It conducts research and concentrates databases of industrial heritage objects in the Czech Republic in the context of global development.
