Karlovy Vary - Karlovy Vary want to demolish the former cinema in Stará Role. The city plans to use a grant meant for so-called brownfields for the demolition. Estimated costs should be between four to five million crowns, said the city’s deputy mayor Tomáš Trtek (ANO) to ČTK.
"The technical condition of the former cinema next to the People’s House is such that repairing it would be unprofitable. A demolition order has been issued for the building with legal force. If approved by the councilors, we will apply for a grant from the Ministry of Regional Development program,” said Trtek.
What will be developed on the site of the former cinema is not yet clear. The deputy said that according to the grant rules, the released space will likely remain empty for the duration of the project sustainability, which is five years, and the city will just convert it into a temporary park.
The transport general plan for Karlovy Vary anticipates that a parking garage should be built in this area. Another possibility is, for example, the construction of a community center or the space could remain a park, Trtek said.
The neighboring People’s House, which includes a multifunctional hall and restaurant, underwent a complete renovation several years ago. The city has gradually invested around 60 million crowns into it.
