Karlovy Vary Region is hurrying with the selection of the Imperial Spa project

Karlovy Vary - The leadership of the Karlovy Vary region approved the conditions for the tender for the reconstruction project of the Imperial Baths at their last council meeting before the summer break. According to Governor Josef Pavel, the region is pressed for time; every delay reduces the chances of obtaining funds from European subsidies, he told reporters today.
The Karlovy Vary region signed a contract for the transfer of the Imperial Baths from the property of the city of Karlovy Vary only on July 4. “We negotiated for a year before reaching this agreement. Given that the preparation of such a complex project will take about a year, we did not want to postpone the tender for months after the holidays. According to the law, the call must be published for 52 days,” explained the expedited actions of the regional leadership, Governor Pavel.
According to Deputy Governor Jan Zborník, the preparation of the renovation of the historical building, which has been unused and dilapidated for years, will be more complicated than the actual reconstruction work. “Negotiations with the heritage conservationists will be complicated. Additionally, it will be necessary to resolve many issues around the building, access, parking, and much more. Obtaining a land use decision will not be easy,” Zborník believes.
The basis for the project development will be a feasibility study, which the region already has prepared. According to it, an exhibition of the Regional Museum of the Karlovy Vary Region, a joint regional and city information center, and a multipurpose hall for 500 people should be established in the Imperial Baths, a sprawling building near the Pupp hotel. The baths themselves and Zander's hall are to be preserved. Additionally, a facility for the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra will be created near the baths.
The evaluation criteria for selecting the contractor, according to the approved conditions, are price, which has a weight of 75 percent, delivery time with a weight of 10 percent, and guarantees. According to Pavel, the contractor of the project could be known during 2009. Work on the reconstruction is expected to begin either at the end of 2009 or more likely in 2010. It should last about two years.
