Kutná Hora - The historic Stone fountain in Rejskova Square in Kutná Hora will once again transform into an open-air gallery this year. It will be opened by local sculptor and ceramicist Andrej Németh. The city lent him the monument for the first time last year. This year, the contract will be renewed, said Mayor Ivo Šalátek to ČTK.
In the paved interior of the fountain under the open sky, Németh exhibited a collection of ceramics, sculptures, and enamels. He had been striving for the lease of the monument for several years. "He wants to keep running the gallery there," added the mayor.
The fountain was built at the end of the 15th century by Matěj Rejsek around one of the reservoirs supplying the city with drinking water. It takes the shape of a richly decorated twelve-sided stone prism. It no longer serves its original purpose.
Although the fountain is empty, it constantly attracts the attention of visitors. They peer into it through a small window in the door. Thanks to the gallery, they can also view the historical building from the inside.
Németh and his colleagues also exhibit wooden and stone sculptures in the courtyard of the Kutná Hora medieval mint Vlašský dvůr.
