Brno - The South Moravian Region wants to lease a government villa on Hroznová Street in Brno-Pisárky from the state. The building has been sought for its use since 2001, but so far in vain. Councilor Lubomír Šmíd told reporters today that it is clear to the councilors that the region will not receive the villa for free, therefore the politicians decided to request its rental.
"We are convinced that we could make good use of that space," said the politician. He added that representatives of the region receive foreign visitors and domestic politicians in Brno, and sometimes it is necessary to have a place to accommodate them or arrange meetings. If the region were to acquire the villa, Šmíd mentioned that the city of Brno or the Brno Trade Fairs, which is located nearby, could also be involved in its use.
Representatives of the region have been striving for the villa for six years. In the past, however, they received a response from the state that state institutions must be given priority to use the building. "To this day, it has not been decided or resolved. For six whole years, the state has been looking for a state institution to which it could entrust the villa, and so far it remains empty," Šmíd stated. According to the councilors' information, the furniture from the house has allegedly been removed to prevent it from being lost.
So far, the region does not have a calculation of how much the rent for the building could cost, nor is there a financial limit for any potential lease. However, the councilors believe that part of the rent could be covered by repairs to the building. The Office for Representation of the State in Property Matters will be the partner for negotiations for the regional politicians.
The residence on Hroznová Street was built in the 1920s by the Brno textile industrialist Alfred Stiasstny. The design was created by architect Arnošt Wiesner, one of the leading representatives of Brno functionalism. Hroznová Street is part of the sought-after villa district of Pisárky, where, for example, the Russian consulate is located nearby.
