Jihlava renovated the indoor pool for 88 million crowns

Jihlava – Jihlava has completed the renovation of the covered swimming pool Evžen Rošický. The year-long reconstruction cost 88 million crowns. According to the mayor of Jihlava, Petr Ryška (ODS), it was necessary. This was the second similarly extensive renovation since the pool opened in 1965. The sports facility with a six-lane swimming pool and a smaller children's pool will serve the public starting Tuesday.

"In any case, it was necessary to carry out this renovation. And since we were doing it, there were some additional works. But I think it’s good that we did them. For example, there are new ceilings that were not originally planned, or new coatings for the iron structures and other things. At least now it all looks like a nice new pool,” said Ryška.

The renovation in Jihlava began to be prepared back in 2019, when it became clear that water from the old pool basins was leaking into the underground floor, jeopardizing other technologies. It started last July. In the meantime, swimming lanes were successfully built in the Water Paradise, where swimming clubs could conduct training during the annual shutdown.

The investment in the swimming pool in Jihlava was also appreciated by Petr Adamec from the Czech Swimming Sports Association, which has about 24,000 members in the Czech Republic. According to him, modernizations are now more common for facilities that are used more for recreational purposes than competitive swimming. Not all 25-meter pools, like the one in Jihlava, meet the parameters required for organizing competitions, he said.

The contractor for the renovation of the Jihlava pool was Metrostav DIZ. They worked on the concrete structures of the pools and their stainless steel surfaces. Important work also included the rehabilitation of steel and reinforced concrete structures. The outdoor terrace, glazed wall, changing rooms, toilets, and facilities for staff are also new. The total costs were partially covered by grants. The Vysočina Region provided 25 million crowns, and the National Sports Agency another 20 million crowns.

The lanes of the bowling alley above the pool, built in 1995, have also been renovated, as they were in poor technical condition. The first extensive renovation of the pool, which started two years earlier, was completed in 1995.
