Jablonec nad Nisou

Jablonec nad Nisou - In Jablonec nad Nisou, the reconstruction of the swimming pool has been completed at a cost of nearly 44 million crowns. It mainly involved the roof and the replacement of heating. Preparations for the next phase are already underway, which is preliminarily estimated to cost up to 60 million crowns. It will mainly concern the modernization of the air conditioning system, said Deputy Mayor Miloš Vele (ODS) during the ceremonial completion of the reconstruction.

"The entire project was financed from the city budget, without the help of subsidy titles, because there were no subsidy titles for these repairs," added Vele.

The pool was opened to the public in 1987, and in 2001 the facility underwent an expensive renovation costing one hundred million crowns. Since 2016, it has had new heating technology. This year, the complex mainly received a new roof and better glazing. The roof reconstruction turned out to be more challenging than expected, and it was additionally complicated by a fire. However, it did not delay or increase the cost of the construction. During the repairs, it became apparent that some parts of the roof structure were in such poor condition that it was only a matter of time before they would collapse. "We discovered parts that needed to be replaced, which we were not prepared for," said Libor Milota, the owner of Termil, the company that handled the reconstruction.

In addition to the roof, which was already in very poor condition, the pool had long been struggling with poor glazing, which was typical of the time it was built. During the reconstruction, it received triple glazing, which should ensure better thermal comfort and reduce heating costs. The roof and new glazing are also present on the outdoor terrace. A kind of greenhouse has been created that preserves the view outside and additionally allows the creation of outdoor seating for a sunbathing lawn. "According to the designer, the indoor temperature on the benches could increase by up to 20 degrees in winter," said Milan Matura from the municipal company Sport Jablonec, which operates the swimming stadium from 1987. Previously, he said, temperatures near the windows were just above freezing in frosty weather.

The Jablonec swimming pool is visited by around 150,000 people annually. The complex features a 25-meter pool with eight lanes, used by both the public and sports clubs. For children, there is a children’s pool with a paddling area, a water mushroom, and a slide. "Our wish in the next few years would be the addition of another 25-meter sports pool with five or six lanes. The current large pool could then be designated for recreational swimming, which would allow, for example, to increase the temperature," added Matura.
