Hrušovany nad Jevišovkou (Znojmo region) - The town hall in Hrušovany nad Jevišovkou in the Znojmo region is looking for ways to utilize its considerably dilapidated castle. The repair will cost 150 million crowns. The town currently lacks the funds. It attempted to sell the property but did not find a serious buyer. It seems there is no way around it but for the town to take care of the property, Mayor Miroslav Miloš (Independent) told ČTK today. A decision on this will be made by the end of this year. "We are preparing materials for the councilors who will be elected in the autumn elections. Only they will have the final say. We will try to offer them options for how the property could be used after a gradual restoration," the mayor stated. According to him, a museum could be created in the castle after reconstruction, and cultural or social events could be held there. In 2010, the Hrušovany town hall found a buyer for the property with a promise that the monument would be restored soon. However, the company did not pay for the castle, and the matter had to be addressed in court. It was decided that the monument belongs to the town. Its management is therefore once again looking for ways to utilize the area. "Most potential buyers are dubious characters. Among them were people who posed as millionaires, but surprisingly, also homeless individuals. The town hall has no choice but to embark on the restoration of the property itself. It certainly won’t be possible without subsidies," said the mayor. The town is currently investing in basic maintenance of the monument. In recent days, it had the area around it cleaned up. This year, it plans to build new fencing for the castle grounds and also install a new drainage system for rainwater. The work will cost approximately three million crowns. Similar problems are faced by dozens of town halls. They weigh heavily, especially on small towns, as larger ones can afford to allocate budget money for at least partial restoration of properties. For example, Bzenec in the Hodonín region, Ivanovice na Hané in the Vyškov region, and Břeclav are currently seeking uses for their castles.
