Hradec Králové - The University of Hradec Králové (UHK) today took over a new building for the Faculty of Informatics and Management, which has risen in the developing university campus opposite the university hospital. The construction of the building, which began in April 2006, cost 360 million crowns. The new building, which is connected to the neighboring building for common teaching via a corridor, will offer students one lecture hall for 150 people, four lecture halls for 60 students, and several other classrooms. The total capacity of the classrooms is 845 students, the building also offers around sixty offices for academic staff. "The new building primarily brings space for further development; today we have 2200 students and in the original building, we had problems with a lack of space for scientific work or various courses and training that we are able to offer," said Dean of the faculty Josef Hynek to reporters, who will become the rector of UHK from July 1st. In connection with the completion of the new building, the university is undergoing a significant relocation; the Faculty of Informatics and Management has moved from its original building in Svobody Square to the new building. The philosophical faculty has moved into the vacated building, which will leave the building at the courtyard of the Bishop Balbín Gymnasium. After the holidays, the Department of Mathematics of the Faculty of Education will be located in this building. UHK is preparing further construction in the area opposite the university hospital, planning to build buildings for the Faculty of Education, and construction of a university sports complex could also begin in a few years. "It is difficult to estimate when the entire campus could be completed, the costs will reach several billion crowns," Hynek said. At the University of Hradec Králové, over 7500 students are studying, offered by the school more than ninety study programs. In the academic year 2008/2009, it wants to accept nearly 3000 students, and by 2010 it hopes to have 10,000 students.
