Measures related to COVID-19 have closed thousands of gastro businesses across the country. The central idea of the Gastro Lives! program from the studio HUA HUA Architects is the safe and rapid revival of the gastronomic sector by maximizing the use of public space with defined safe zones.
The graphic representation of safe zones and the distances between individual zones encourage considerate and aware behavior of seated diners and passersby. Safe zones transform public space into clearly defined areas arranged at approved distancing distances from each other. Each safe zone is equipped with dining furniture that adheres to defined restrictions. Customers pick up food from the restaurant window while wearing a mask, take it to the safe zone, and consume it there without a mask. Outside the safe zone, people move around wearing masks.
The project's authors also anticipate collaboration with municipal architects and city representatives to locate suitable spaces and with local artists for the appropriate graphic representation of safe zones and seating areas.
