Brno - A busy passage from Josefská Street to the underground below the Brno main railway station will be lined with legally done graffiti, artistic creations of young sprayers. The city council has decided to allow skilled sprayers to create conceptually at this location rather than leave the area to vandals. The Mayor of Brno, Richard Svoboda, fears that even legal graffiti spaces will not reduce the damage to property in the city, which youth regularly cause with colored sprays.

The city council came up with the idea of using the walls of the passage. Representatives of the Brno-Centrum district will now select themes for the decoration from the proposals of the artists' association Canart. "We are waiting for their proposals, but we have not received any yet," said the spokesman for the city district, Roman Burián, to ČTK today.
Sprayers cause multi-million damage to monuments, private and city property in the center of Brno every year. According to Mayor Richard Svoboda, this will not be influenced by the potential establishment of more legal spaces. "Personally, I have doubts whether this has any connection to the number of desecrated facades in the city. Those people are looking for a piece of adrenaline, breaking the rules," the mayor told reporters today.
The leaders of the Brno-Centrum district have found it effective in the fight against vandal sprayers to remove their creations immediately. "If left alone, they keep increasing in the same place," Burián stated.
