Prague - The youngest generation of Slovak architects is represented by an exhibition that began today at the Jaroslav Fragner Gallery in Prague. They are united by the name of a prominent figure in Slovak architecture, architect and educator Ivan Gürtler. The exhibition was created on the occasion of the conclusion of his teaching activity at the Faculty of Architecture at STU in Bratislava. Gürtler worked at the faculty for the last seventeen years and decided to mark his departure with an exhibition showcasing his graduates, the youngest generation of successful architects. It is the most comprehensive presentation of young Slovak architects, conceived as an exhibition project for foreign audiences. The exhibition is titled Made in IG and will last in Prague until May 3rd. During his time at the faculty, more than seventy graduates completed their studies under Gürtler, while other students are still in school. The exhibition showcases the work of the mentioned seventy creators. Gürtler stopped teaching at Slovakia's largest school of architecture in the last academic year. "It is not only a summary of my teaching activity from 1991 to 2008 but also a reflection on the collaboration in studios where young architecture practitioners were professionally shaped," Gürtler states. Many of them have had international successes as well. Dozens of students who passed through his studio belong to a generation with a broad perspective, studying in a free environment. Their demand for openness and dialogue from higher education is characteristic of them and is reflected in their work. While Czech architectural schools quickly re-established contacts with foreign institutions after 1989, it was not as simple in Slovakia - these contacts are what Gürtler sought to facilitate for his students.
