České Budějovice - The Českobudějovické housing estate Vltava, the second largest in the city, is set for extensive regeneration. The first phase of work will begin in September and will cost approximately nine million crowns. The city has received four million crowns from the Ministry for Regional Development. Residents of the estate will see improvements to children's playgrounds, road surfaces, the restoration of greenery, and new parking spaces. This was reported to ČTK by the deputy mayor of České Budějovice, Juraj Thoma.

"The project cannot solve any more than that. Under no circumstances does it allow for the remediation of the panel buildings themselves; its goal is the arrangement of public spaces between individual buildings," he stated. The Vltava housing estate was remembered by the public from June 1998, when two MiG-21 fighter planes collided above it.
The city is also preparing the regeneration of the outdoor environment in the Máj housing estate, where around 17,000 residents live. According to Thoma, it will address the lack of greenery, missing central areas, and parking spaces. "In Máj alone, there is a deficit of 2400 parking spaces. The presented concept has newly placed about 1100 spaces in the estate at the level of the existing surfaces, unfortunately, partly at the expense of greenery," the deputy mayor stated.
The city council has already discussed the changes with the residents of the estate. Their comments and suggestions will be incorporated by architects into the project, which will be submitted to the councilors by September. "After that, we will again apply for financial support from the Ministry for Regional Development and from the city's budget," Thoma added. If the municipality is successful, the regeneration of the housing estate could begin as early as next year.
