Ústí nad Labem

Ústí nad Labem - Passengers now have access to a reconstructed main train station building in Ústí nad Labem. Representatives of Czech Railways presented it today after more than a year of renovations. The reconstruction was carried out by BM Construction, with total costs reaching 45 million crowns. ČTK was informed of this by ČD spokesperson Radka Pistoriusová.
Part of the reconstruction included the modernization of the ticket hall and the creation of a new main entrance to the station building. This connects to an underpass that allows access to the Elbe waterfront. The ticket hall is located in a newly constructed glass section of the station building. The hall also features a gallery where people can wait for their trains to arrive.
"In the new ticket hall, there are four new ticket counters available, including one for international tickets, and additional services are provided by the ČD center. Modern large-scale panels display information about arriving and departing train connections. In the ticket hall, passengers have the opportunity to use Wi-Fi internet access, as well as vending machines for snacks, and even an ATM," Pistoriusová listed. The reconstruction began in December 2011 and the building was approved for use this January. The ticket hall has been in trial operation since last August.
In the second part of the building, passengers will find a luggage ticket office and commercial spaces for purchasing printed materials and snacks. In time, a station restaurant is also set to open there, and a suitable tenant is currently being sought. The entire waiting hall is equipped with a security camera system.
The reconstruction took place in two phases. Passengers always had access to one half of the station space. "Part of the original historic building was preserved and modernized, while the remaining part of the station is home to a new glass ticket hall designed by Atelier AP, with the project being processed by the company SUDOP Prague," added Pistoriusová.
The modernization of the Ústí nad Labem main train station was one of the most significant investment projects of Czech Railways in the past two years. Approximately two million passengers pass through the station in Ústí nad Labem each year, making it one of the busiest in the country. The main station building in Ústí nad Labem was built in 1850. Air raids in 1945 severely damaged it, and it has been in operation as a functional temporary facility since that year. Significant damage was also caused by floods in 2002.
