The Transportation Construction of the Year is the new line Zábřeh - Krasíkov

Prague - The Transportation Construction of the Year 2006 became the new railway line between Zábřeh na Moravě and Krasíkov. The results of the competition, announced annually by the Ministry of Transport and the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure, were revealed yesterday by the expert jury during a festive evening at the U Hybernů House in Prague.
The approximately fifteen-kilometer section of the new railway, which cost over four billion crowns, was constructed by a consortium of companies Subterra, Metrostav, and Stavby silnic a železnic. Two-thirds of the costs were covered by European funds. The new line is part of a branch of the so-called second corridor, which runs from northern Moravia south to Vienna.
As the second most successful transport construction, the jury awarded the Panenská tunnel on the D8 highway to northern Bohemia, which, at more than two kilometers, is the longest tunnel in the Czech motorway network. The third best construction is a section of the expressway R48 between the municipalities of Dobrá and Tošanovice in the Ostrava region.
The jury of the competition consists of representatives from the Ministry of Transport, the transport fund, experts from transportation universities, or architects. Among other things, the significance of the construction for transport safety or its integration into the surrounding environment is evaluated. Previous winners include, for example, Terminal No. 2 at Prague Airport or the road bypass of Ostrov nad Ohří.
