Olomouc - The town hall in Olomouc is running out of patience with people building unauthorized structures in areas designated for flood wave overflow. For example, gardeners in Uničov must remove illegal constructions by the end of the summer holidays. Otherwise, the city will not extend their lease agreements. This is reported by today’s Olomoucký deník (Deník).

Uničov has problems with approximately 20 tenants of gardens near the Oskava river. "Right in the flood protection earthworks, which are to capture water during a sudden increase in the level, people have built many small illegal structures. During this year's floods, it became clear that smokers, sheds, and shelters obstruct rescue operations. Citizens must remove them at their own expense by the end of August," said Deputy Mayor Dalibor Horák.
According to him, the city rents out the gardens for a year. "If the tenants do not remove their illegal constructions, we will not renew their contracts for the next period," noted Horák.
Similarly, the town hall in Litovel has acted. "On Palackého Street, a local resident built a bridge. Unfortunately, it is located in a place that reduces flow capacity. If he does not remove it himself, the city will do it for him. We must protect the property of other citizens," stated secretary Radovan Vašíček.
Similar cases are also being addressed by water managers. "We have nothing against people taking water from the river for irrigation. However, every year we find water extraction devices built without our consent near the streams. We will assess this much more strictly," noted Antonín Kurfürst from the Povodí Moravy.
