Karlovy Vary - The demolition and subsequent construction of the new Doubský Bridge in Karlovy Vary could begin in the spring of next year. If there are no delays, the new bridge could be in use by the end of 2019. This was announced today by the spokesperson of the Road and Motorways Directorate (ŘSD) Nina Ledvinová.
The bridge, which connects the Karlovy Vary districts of Tašovice and Doubí, was scheduled for repairs this year. The repairs were expected to cost 8.8 million crowns. It was closed since April. However, after several months, it was found that its condition was worse than expected, and at the end of August, a decision was made to demolish the bridge.
"Currently, the final comments on the proposed tender documentation are being made by the contracting authority and the relevant governmental bodies. The tender documentation will be issued in an open procedure. The tender process will include the preparation of project documentation, the demolition of the existing bridge, and the construction of the new bridge," Ledvinová told ČTK.
The construction costs are estimated to be around 70 million crowns, according to initial estimates. "However, everything will be influenced by the future design proposal of the bridge and the bids of the applicants for the tender itself," added the spokeswoman.
The closure of the Doubský Bridge complicates transport in the spa town. It is part of the road to Plzeň, so cars must use a detour via the Dvorský Bridge, which belongs to the city and also urgently needs repairs. The closure is also a complication for pedestrians, as there is no way to get from Tašovice to Doubí.
