Karlovy Vary - The Chinese company Shandong province construction offers the Karlovy Vary city council a partnership in the construction of a multifunctional hall. The company's general director said on Friday at the construction site in Karlovy Vary that the Chinese would complete the hall in fifteen months instead of the planned two years, states today's regional edition of Mladá fronta Dnes (MfD). "The Chinese also suggested that they would buy our unfinished hall. They asked how much it would cost," said Deputy Mayor Tomáš Hybner. At the construction site, he was accompanied by the Chinese entrepreneurs and the head of the Czech-Chinese Chamber of Commerce Jiří Schraml. "We are glad that the Chinese, with whom we have organized a number of tourist and other events, have come to Karlovy Vary. The hall is about the great development of the city and about big money, which is why the Chinese are here," explained Schraml. The director of the company Li Xianzhi stated during the site visit that the main goal of the visit to the region is to seek partners for work in the Czech Republic. He mentioned the Karlovy Vary company Baustav, which is one of the three contractors for the hall. "We are interested in collaboration. We can bring our technology, labor force, building materials, and we can construct not only a sports hall in the region, but also residential buildings, roads, highways, and everything possible," stated the director of the Chinese company. However, he pointed out that different standards would need to be unified. Deputy Tomáš Hybner was pleased about the interest of such a large company in the hall and other major investment projects. Shandong province construction employs 50,000 people, which is the population of Karlovy Vary. "The visit is a surprise to me. Opponents of the hall say that the city council is building a monument. It is not yet built, and there is already interest in it," commented the deputy on the situation. Opposition councilor Jiří Kotek believes that the offer should have come much earlier. "If a private investor builds and operates the hall, then it has no faults," he said. "The hall could thus cost half the money and be completed sooner. The city would not go into debt as an investor," Kotek is convinced. He would prefer the Chinese company because, according to him, the Chinese do not pay bribes.
