Cheb - The gazebo on Zlatý vrch in Cheb was reopened today, which was refurbished by the Historical Cheb Foundation. The gazebo with a view of the historic city center was destroyed in the 1970s. The restoration of this previously popular walking spot above Cheb cost 1.7 million koruna, said Cheb's deputy mayor and chairman of the foundation's board, Michal Pospíšil (ODS), to ČTK today. "The foundation secured the construction itself and after completion, the gazebo was handed over to the city. The same was done in the past, for example, with the towers of St. Nicholas Church, which we also handed over to the church after completion," Pospíšil stated. The gazebo was restored according to the design by Cheb architect Luďek Vystyd, who passed away last year. The project was based on historical sources, and the new lookout thus replicates its original appearance from the 1880s. "In addition, new stairs and a spiraling access path have been built in the gazebo, which allows wheelchair users to reach the lookout," Pospíšil added. Construction work began last autumn, and the main part of the construction was completed before the arrival of winter. However, some earthworks had to wait until spring. The gazebo and its surroundings were definitively completed at the end of April. Part of the funds for the gazebo's restoration, over 50,000 koruna, was obtained by the foundation from a public collection. Additional resources were provided by the foundation itself. The foundation, which focuses on the restoration of historical monuments in Cheb and its surroundings, is now preparing the reconstruction of an almost disappeared cemetery in Krásná Lípa near the city.
