Prague - For her lifelong contribution to the field of civil engineering and architecture, Professor Alena Kohoutková, Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Czech Technical University, received the Milada Paulová Award today. Along with the award, which is given to outstanding Czech female scientists, she also took home a prize of one hundred fifty thousand crowns. She accepted the award today during a conference on gender and science at the Czech Academy of Sciences.
  "It is a great honor that this year's award comes into my hands. When I saw the nominated colleagues, I thought I was in good company," Kohoutková said today at the conference. She also added that the civil engineering field has its specificities, being based on research and personal authorship.
   The nominees for the award included Professors Hana Urbášková from the Faculty of Architecture at the Brno University of Technology and Pavla Rovnaníková from the Brno Faculty of Civil Engineering. Other nominees included Darja Kubečková from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava, the first female dean of a civil engineering faculty in the Czech lands, and Milena Císlerová from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at CTU, the first female professor at this school.
   Awardee Kohoutková, among other things, focuses on computational analysis and modeling of composite elements and structures, models for limit states of usability, concrete recycling, and the aesthetics of concrete structure design. Her work results are of global significance.
   The Milada Paulová Award has been awarded since 2009. It is named after the woman who first gained the right to lecture at a Czech university in 1925.
