The center of Liberec will be adorned with another unusual artwork

Liberec - Another unusual work of art will adorn the center of Liberec. In the spring, the space in front of the Centrum Palace at Soukenné Square should be enlivened by a sculpture that will also serve as a bench. The author of the work will be artist Lukáš Rittestein, who was approached by the company Spacium. In the summer, six or seven sculptures will embellish the nearby street along the department store, creating an unusual open-air gallery. This was stated today by the director of Spacium, Ivona Raimanová.
    The company Spacium was founded six years ago in Liberec at the initiative of artists and architects. The company is intensely working on revitalizing and cultivating urban nooks in the city of one hundred thousand. Thanks to its activities, many previously uninteresting places are now adorned with works of art - among the most well-known are the Pyramid by Marian Karl in front of the North Bohemian Museum or the Ball by Milan Houser near the Grandhotel Zlatý Lev.
    Among the most popular but also likely the most controversial works that adorn Liberec is the sculptural project Zastávka by David Černý in the city center. The bronze monumental sculpture looks like a laid table, and passengers wait for buses hidden underneath. "The old stop provoked us with its desolation, and so we chose it for the bronze sculpture," noted one of the founders of Spacium, Liberec architect Filip Horatschke. Next to the historical town hall, the object has become one of the most photographed in the city center.
    One of the latest endeavors of Spacium was the wooden birds that replaced the statue of the Chair by Magdalena Jetelová in front of the Liberec town hall a few months ago. However, thanks to the support of Spacium, not only new sculptures are being created, but those that have already stood in the city and were often forgotten are also returning to their original beauty. Two sculptures were restored two years ago - the Gate of Dreams by Eva Kmentová and Butterfly Wings by Jiří Novák, which have adorned the small park against the North Bohemian Museum for over 30 years. The works were created as part of the unique project Sculpture and the City in 1969, which Spacium is trying to continue.
