Pardubice – Pardubice rejected a request to sell the dilapidated building of the former military swimming pool by the Chrudimka River on K Vinici Street. A private investor wanted to convert it into a recreation and dining center, said Mayor Martin Charvát to ČTK. The city wants to keep the building to maintain control over its use.

"I have been authorized to negotiate with the interested party to see if they would take it on long-term lease for their project. The entire area should be preserved as a recreational zone for residents in the Vinice area and for the new housing development that will spring up along S.K. Neumann Street," Charvát stated. The potential sale at auction is not considered suitable by the city, as it would not guarantee future use reliably.

The military swimming pool was built on the Chrudimka River in 1925 by officers of the railway regiment and, according to eyewitnesses, was the most renowned in Pardubice during the interwar period. The swimming pool ceased operations after the German occupation.

Almost ten years ago, Pardubice decided to revamp both banks of the Chrudimka River from its confluence with the Elbe to Vinice Park. People travel through the area by bike, go for walks, or walk their dogs. In the project called Necklace of the Chrudimka, part of the old pathways along the river has already been restored, and a public grilling area has been created.
