The former barracks in Plzeň are set to be transformed into a neighborhood with apartments for 20 billion CZK within 15 years

Plzeň - The former Plzeň barracks in Slovany, covering an area of 32 hectares, are set to be transformed into a modern district with several thousand apartments, shops, offices, parks, roads, and a kindergarten, and likely also a primary school within 15 years. The owner of the largest development area in the city, APB - PLZEŇ a.s., intends to invest about 20 billion CZK there with the companies Slovany land and Slovany develop. This was stated by co-owner of APB Petr Březina at today's signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the city and the investors of the Slovany Barracks. The first houses are expected to be built within two years.

The barracks area has been abandoned since 1992. According to Březina, the old military buildings have been leveled, the entire area is cleared, free of ecological burdens, and ready for utility connections. The memorandum, according to Mayor Roman Zarzycký (ANO), declares a joint will for the revitalization of the largest brownfield in the city, outlines the parameters of cooperation, and commits to signing a contract in April 2024. "I must acknowledge the collaboration with the developer on the so-called contributions, which are in the hundreds of millions," he stated. In the area, which is the same size as the large Plzeň housing estate Vinice, thousands of private and municipal apartments will be created, which could reduce prices in the local real estate market.

The investor has committed to building the technical and transport infrastructure of the new quarter for up to 10,000 residents. Roads, parks, and sidewalks will then be handed over to the city.
