The bronze model of Přerov will be kept by the city despite the delay

Přerov - The bronze model depicting the historical preservation zone of Přerov has been decided by the city hall leadership to be retained despite the delayed delivery deadline. The work was originally supposed to be ceremoniously unveiled by the city by the end of last year to commemorate the 750th anniversary of Přerov's elevation to a city, which was also a condition of the tender. However, the academic sculptor was unable to deliver the model on time. The council members are expected to decide on a penalty at the next meeting. The city will pay 1.6 million crowns for the model.
    "The intention for the unveiling to take place by the end of 2006 was not fulfilled. The sculptor has already received 800,000 crowns from the city for the creation of the work, and it would be complicated to return the money. Therefore, we will proceed according to the contract for the work. We will address the penalty at the next council meeting," said Přerov Mayor Jiří Lajtoch (ČSSD) to reporters today.
    Academic sculptor André Vícha told ČTK today that he intends to hand over the model to the city in the coming days. "I am currently at the foundry where the model is being completed. On Monday, I will arrange a date with the city office; it is a question of the coming days," stated the contractor of the work.
    The planned unveiling of the bronze model ended in failure at the end of the year. The city wanted to present it to the public at the end of December to conclude last year's grand celebrations of the city's anniversary. The city hall announced the unveiling of the work weeks in advance and also sent invitations, which ultimately had to be canceled. The author of the work explained the delay by a technical problem regarding the complexity of the model and its atypical dimensions.
    The model will stand in T.G. Masaryk Square at a scale of 1:250. The sculpture will depict the entire historical preservation zone of the city and part of the protective zone.
